How do I update my SPF Record?

Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is a standard for authenticating email. It is used by ISPs to ensure that purported senders of email messages are actually the ones presenting the messages they review.

In order to ensure optimal deliverability of messages, AWeber does authenticate using SPF. While this means that you will most likely not encounter any deliverability issues when using your website's domain in your from address with AWeber (i.e., it is still a good idea to make sure that you've added '' to your domain's SPF record.

This article explains how you might go about updating your SPF record. The instructions in this article are from GoDaddy as the web host. Depending on your web host, the process may differ. If you're not sure how to edit your domain's SPF records, contact your web host or DNS provider.

Step By Step Instructions

  1. From within your GoDaddy account, go to the "DNS Zone File" section to update DNS files/settings.

    Select DNS Zone File

  2. Click on the option to "Add Record". (Depending on your web host or DNS provider this option may read differently/look different)

    Click Add Record

  3. Select the record type for SPF record which will be a "TXT (Text)" type.

  4. If prompted to select a host, use the "@" symbol so this applies for your domain. Enter in the following AWeber record for the "TXT Value":

    v=spf1 mx -all

    Be sure to save the changes once complete.

    Enter v=spf1 mx -all

That's it! Now your SPF record will be updated to reflect AWeber's information when email clients receive your email messages. This can help increase your deliverability.
