How do I get started with Workflows?
Workflows let you send the right message to the right person at the right time, saving you time while allowing for targeted and effective communication.
Actions like Starter, Message, Wait, Tag, Check Feed, and Split Path make it easy to build and customize your workflow. You can also allow multiple entries so subscribers can repeat a workflow they’ve completed before.
This article will help you create a workflow automation from scratch using Workflows.
Step By Step Instructions
- Before creating your worfklow, prepare your messages. Head to Messages and click the "Create a Message" button to create your emails using your preferred editor. The Drag & Drop Editor is our most popular editor. Once your messages are ready, you’re all set to build your workflow.
- Navigate to Automations, select Workflows, and click the "Create" button.
- Every workflow begins with a Starter. Choose one of these options:
- Add all new subscribers who join my list. Start the campaign when someone subscribes through a specific method.
- Only add subscribers who get a specific tag.. Start the campaign when a tag is applied to a subscriber.
- Build your campaign by click the "+" button on the canvas, your workspace for organizing the campaign flow. Each new action dropped onto the canvas will serve as the next subsequent action to be taken with the subscriber.
- To build your campaign, choose actions to add them to the canvas. Available actions include:
- Message. Sends an email to your subscriber.
- Wait. Adds delays between actions.
- Tag. Adds or removes tags to start other Campaigns or segment your audience.
- Check Feed. Monitors your RSS feed for new content.
- Split Path. Customizes your email flow by segmenting your audience based on their interactions with your messages.
- To customize an action, click it on the Canvas and adjust its settings. For example, you can set the delay time for the Wait action directly from this menu.
Important Note: Keep in mind that send windows use the timezone of the device that last saved the campaign. When you edit or preview the campaign, ensure the scheduled times align with your intended timezone.
- Once your campaign is complete and passes the checklist, click "Publish Changes" to activate it.
- If you need to pause your campaign, open it in the Campaigns builder and toggle the "On" next to "Published Version" off.
You can change a Campaign’s status by clicking the options menu (three vertical dots). Available statuses include "Close" and "Stop".
Important Note: Campaigns that are closed or stopped cannot be reactivated, so be sure of your decision before making this change.
And that’s it! You’ve created an AWesome series of messages using Workflows. You can continue to add new actions, tweak your current workflow, or build entirely new ones to keep engaging with your audience.
Workflow Action Limit
Please note that each workflow has a maximum limit of 500 actions. An action refers to any individual action in your campaign, such as sending a message, applying a tag, or adding a wait period. If you reach this limit, you won’t be able to add additional steps until some are removed.
To maintain continuity in your automations, you can pass subscribers from the end of one campaign to the beginning of another. This is typically done by applying a tag in the final step of the first workflow, which then starts a second workflow that starts when that tag is applied. This approach allows you to build out more complex or extended automations while staying within the action limit of each individual workflow.
