When data is sent between your browser and the website you are connected to, it either uses the HTTP or HTTPS protocol (you’ll see this in your browser bar or in a URL you copy). HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure) is the secure version of HTTP, meaning all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted.
This protects your website’s users from attacks, where someone steals the information being sent to a website, like credit card information, logins, or other personal information.
How does this affect my emails?
When you link to images or sites that are not HTTPS compliant, filters can block your emails because it has insecure content, thus impacting your deliverability. To get maximum email deliverability and trust from your customers you want to make sure your links are HTTPS.
Why does this affect my website?
Google announced that in July 2018, with the release of Chrome 68, web pages loaded without HTTPS will be marked as “not secure”. All other browsers intend to follow the lead.
Thus if your page is “not secure” you are potentially negatively impacting visitors’ perception of your product, service or information.
Why use HTTPS:
- Customer information is encrypted and cannot be intercepted
- Visitors can verify you are a registered business and that you own the domain
- Customers are more likely to trust and complete purchases from sites that use HTTPS
- Having a HTTPS website helps in search rankings.
How to get HTTPS compliant:
