How do I send automated emails using my RSS feed?
Within your Workflow, you can automatically send the latest content from your blog, YouTube, podcast, or any other channel that has an RSS feed.
The "Check Feed" action will monitor your feed for new content. When the feed finds one or more new posts, it can automatically send a message to your subscribers, similar to blog broadcasts.
You can send a message to notify subscribers to check out your new content or you can add the "Feed" element in your message to display links to your latest posts. You can design messages with the latest posts from your blog, videos from your YouTube channel, or products from your eCommerce store to drive more subscribers to your site.
Step By Step Instructions
-
Create a new Workflow: Go to the "Workflows" page and click "Create Workflow" to get started. Select the "Share Feed Content" template.
Note: The "Check Feed" action is only available within the "Share Feed Content" template.
-
Adjust "Check Feed" settings: After the Workflow is created, the second step will be a "Check Feed" action. Mouse over this action and click on the edit button to make adjustments.
The following settings can be changed for the "Check Feed" action:
Feed URL: Update this URL to use your own RSS feed.
Frequency: Choose how often you want the automation to check your new feed for posts.
New Posts: Choose how many new posts the feed should wait for prior to sending an email.
If you simply want to send a message out as soon as there is a new post in your feed, then make sure to update the feed URL, and leave the default options selected for "frequency" and "new posts".
Note: If you choose to update the frequency, you can specify the day of the week and time for your feed to be checked. If you want your feed to be checked based on your subscribers' timezone, you can check the "Use the subscriber's timezone box.
Important Note: By default, the Workflow is set up to start for subscribers that receive the "blog-sign-up" tag. If you want all new subscribers to receive this automation, update the starter:
-
Edit the Message: The message needs to be customized to include your feed and branding. Mouse over the message and click the edit button. You can now edit the message to match your branding.
To update the feed content in the message, click on the template's existing feed content, and update the URL on the right to use your RSS feed's URL. You can also specify specific categories from your feed to include in message, update the number of items that display, and adjust the layout of the feed content.
-
Repeat Step: by default, the check feed will repeat any actions between the feed and the repeat step forever.
If you would prefer to have your feed be checked only until a certain date, or a certain number of new posts are found, then you can edit this action.
Note: If you change the repeat step to end on a specific date or after a number of occurrences, you will be able to add additional Workflow actions after the repeat step ends.
-
Publish and turn on: Click the "Publish" button in the top right of the editor to publish your Workflow and turn it on.
Important Note: Existing subscribers will not start the Workflow once it is turned on. To add existing subscribers to the workflow, see: How do I add existing subscribers to my Workflow?
